Diversion

We live in a time of endless diversion. As a society, we love noise, pleasure and movement. Solitude is incomprehensible and is seen as a punishment. We are constantly in a state of diversion. Diversion is to divert from a standard or principle -- to change the direction or course of; to change the aim or destination of.

The dictionary defines diversion as turning something aside from its course. It is an activity that diverts or amuses or stimulates the mind by turning aside one's attention.

Not all diversions are bad. Diversions can just be a source of  amusement or it can be a source of happiness or distraction from misery.

In the military, diversion is a tactic used to draw attention away from the real threat or action. According to Blaise Pascal, Diversion is the busyness and pointless affectation (pretension, behavior to impress) where we flutter from one activity to another without reflection as to the activity’s real worth or our real end.

The opposite of diversion is to be single minded in one’s focus, concentration, conformity, and compliance - the ability to focus all of one's attention on something. It is to comply with rules, standards or laws; to obey, to observe and abide by.

The Bible teaches that diversion is a strategy used by the enemy. In the ‘Spiritual realm’, there is God’s realm and Satan’s realm. Satan perverts the truth in order to divert us from the truth.
